Watch video of the family escaping rushing floodwaters A man who told ABC15 he is the woman's grandfather said they are both OK. He said the truck in front of his granddaughter drove through the flooded roadway, but when she went through, her car was caught in the floodwater, stalled out and was swept downstream. Both are shaken, but glad to be alive, according to the man. He said the little girl turns 2-years-old on Friday and that she and her mother are staying with him. At 5:08 a.m., the National Weather Service doppler radar detected rain falling at the rate of one to two inches per hour along the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Lake. According to the National Weather Service, "most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway." Floodwaters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road.
